It is often said that a "nutritionally balanced diet" is a source of good health. However, many people don't really know what kind of meal they should eat.

A "nutritionally balanced diet" is a diet that provides an even balance of nutrients needed to maintain physical and mental health.

"Nutrients" are components in foods such as meat, vegetables, and fruits. When we eat these foods, these nutrients enter the body and the body uses them for our daily activities. 

The five most important nutrients you need are carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, and minerals. These are the major nutrients, and each nutrient has three important roles.

  • The first is to be a source of energy for the body
  • The second is to be a material to make the body 
  • The third is to condition the body.

By eating a variety of foods, you will be able to properly supply the necessary nutrients and maintain your daily health.

Necessary for a nutritionally healthy diet

We will explain the characteristics and roles of each of the five major nutrients necessary for a nutritionally balanced diet and the food sources.

1) Carbohydrate

Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for moving the brain and body. There are various types of monosaccharides such as glucose, fructose, and polysaccharide starch, which are abundant in cereals and fruits.

Compared to lipids, which are energy sources like carbohydrates, they are characterized by being decomposed and absorbed more quickly and quickly converted into energy.

Carbohydrate is a combination of sugar and dietary fiber. The dietary fiber is indispensable for keeping the digestive system healthy, such as cleaning the intestines.

2) Lipids

Lipids, like carbohydrates, provide an energy source for moving the body. There are three types, simple lipids, complex lipids, and induced lipids, depending on the structure. They are abundant in vegetable oils and meat fats.

Since the amount of energy of lipids is more than twice that of carbohydrates, it is a more efficient energy source. However, be aware that taking too much can cause obesity.

3) Protein

4) Vitamins

Vitamins act like lubricating oils that help to condition the body and help other nutrients work. Vitamins include vitamins A, D, E, and K, which are fat-soluble vitamins that are insoluble in water, & vitamins B and C, which are water-soluble vitamins.

Most vitamins cannot be stored in the body, so it is important to take them regularly from the diet.

5) Minerals

Minerals play a role in making body tissues such as bones, teeth, skin, and blood cells, and in conditioning the body.

What happens when nutrients are deficient or excessive?

A balanced diet of the nutrients you need is the basis of a healthy diet.

If you lack or overdose nutrients, it adversely affects your health, so be sure to take the right amount!
